3E Network designs a 6 MW Mikkeli AI data center for Nvidia Vera Rubin as 2026 target nears

3 E Network said Friday that the first phase of its Mikkeli AI data-center project in Finland is being designed around Nvidia's Vera Rubin architecture. That decision matters because high-density AI hardware has to be matched with power distribution, liquid cooling and network design before construction is too advanced to change cheaply.

The project is still small and pre-revenue. 3E's Finnish subsidiary signed a 30-year lease for roughly 10 hectares in December 2025. The city of Mikkeli said in January that a 6 MW first phase was targeted for operation in the second half of 2026 and that nearby high-voltage infrastructure could support expansion to about 50 MW, subject to the grid-connection process. The first-phase building permit became legally binding in April, and the company later said site clearance was complete and earthworks were under way.

Those milestones establish a real development site. They do not make 50 MW an operating asset: 6 MW remains the disclosed first phase, while the larger figure describes expansion potential.

The timing is now more informative than the architecture label. The city's second-half 2026 operating target is already under way, yet Friday's update did not disclose a contracted customer, final energized-power date, phase-one capital cost or a procurement commitment for Rubin systems. With less than four months left in the year, the absence of a dated energization or commissioning update has become commercially relevant rather than a routine development-stage omission. Without those links, an Nvidia-compatible blueprint cannot be converted into revenue or return assumptions.

With a 6 MW first phase and limited commercial disclosure, Mikkeli is an engineering-readiness update rather than a hyperscale operating story. Selecting Rubin reduces the risk that power and cooling systems are obsolete before commissioning. The project still has to show that the 6 MW phase will be energized and occupied on terms that pay for the build. For now, engineering readiness has advanced further than the commercial case.
