The European Union has initiated a full-blown investigation into Apple Inc., Alphabet Inc.’s Google, and Meta Platforms Inc. over alleged violations of the bloc’s Digital Markets Act. As per the European Commission, this move targets Apple and Google's app store rules as well as unfair practices in Google's search results and potential restrictions imposed by Apple on users' freedom to choose alternative browsers. The firms face the risk of substantial fines as the EU tightens the reins on the power of Big Tech.
