The FCC has announced a new broadband standard of 100 megabits per second for downloads and 20 megabits per second for uploads, marking a crucial shift from the previous 25Mbps/3Mbps definition. This redefinition will impact the regulation and funding of broadband providers to improve internet access across America. However, challenges remain, with 24 million Americans lacking fixed terrestrial broadband and 45 million lacking access to both 100/20 Mbps fixed service and 35/3 Mbps mobile 5G-NR service. The move was driven by the FCC's Democratic majority, representing a significant change in policy direction.
