According to federal prosecutors, Sam Bankman-Fried orchestrated one of the biggest criminal frauds in the history of the world, bilking FTX customers out of over $8 billion. However, FTX's bankruptcy lawyers believe customers might get all their money back. The sentencing judge needs to grapple with the vast discrepancy between how long prosecutors want Bankman-Fried to serve in prison and the much lower sentence his lawyers are fighting for. This case is entangled with the bankruptcy of FTX, and the judge is being asked to decide how much money Bankman-Fried should be held accountable for and to consider his possible neurodivergence. The judge has formed a negative view of Bankman-Fried due to his house arrest violations and witness tampering. His lawyers and family suggest that he is neurodivergent which might influence his sentence. The whole complicated situation will ultimately be up to the judge's discretion.
