Harvard College has reported a 5% decrease in applications compared to the previous year, reflecting a symbolic setback for the institution following a tumultuous period. This period included the resignation of its president and a setback at the Supreme Court. The school disclosed that 54,008 students applied for admission to the freshman class for the upcoming fall semester. It is noteworthy that this decline in applications marks the second consecutive year of decrease for Harvard College. This trend is in contrast to the surge in applications, reaching 61,220, two years ago during the pandemic when standardized testing requirements were eliminated by colleges. The decline in applications signals a notable shift in the landscape of college admissions, indicating potential impacts and changes within the academic environment.
