The big island of Hawaii is facing the risk of blackouts until the end of April due to a number of major power plants breaking down or undergoing maintenance, as reported by the state’s main utility operator. Hawaiian Electric has urged customers, including resorts and retailers, to curtail or shift their electricity usage in response to the situation. The largest disabled generator, capable of meeting almost one-third of the island’s peak power demand, is currently offline due to mechanical issues. The utility's plea for reduced consumption underscores the severity of the blackout risk, highlighting the need for immediate measures to mitigate these challenges.
