Iran has accused Israel of carrying out an airstrike that destroyed its consulate compound in Damascus, resulting in the death of an unconfirmed number of people, including a senior Revolutionary Guard commander. The strike comes amid escalating tensions along Israel’s northern border and ongoing conflict in Gaza. According to reports, the strike killed General Mohammed Reza Zahedi and an estimated five to seven individuals. The Israeli Defense Forces did not confirm the strike but anonymous officials revealed that it targeted the Iranian general. The incident occurred as Iran-supported groups continue to engage in conflicts, reflecting broader regional tensions between Iran, Israel, and other militias. Israel remains yet to officially confirm its role in the strike, raising concerns about potential escalation. The situation is being closely monitored by the U.S. government. This recent development underscores the complex and volatile dynamics in the Middle East and the ongoing power struggles between regional actors.
