Developers within the Ripple Labs and XRP Ledger ecosystem are discussing the idea of creating a Canary Network for the layer-1 blockchain. The call was initiated by Wietse Wind, the cofounder of Xumm Wallet, who emphasized the necessity of a testing ground before major upgrades and products go live on the XRP Ledger mainnet. The recent glitch in the Automated Market Maker (AMM) feature on XRP Ledger reinforced the importance of such a network. Wind proposed that the Canary Network should closely mimic the mainnet in all features to enable realistic testing scenarios. He also stressed the need for massive decentralization to accommodate traders, developers, and other key stakeholders. This move would align the XRP Ledger with other blockchain networks like Flare and Songbird, providing a platform for seamless testing and refinement before major upgrades are deployed on the mainnet. The development of the Canary Network is likely to gain momentum in the near future.
