South Africa's state power utility, Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd., is responsible for running several of the world's worst emission sites for toxic nitrogen dioxide and sulfur dioxide, as reported by Greenpeace. The coal-fired power plants operated by Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd. are identified as the major contributors to nitrogen-dioxide and sulfur-dioxide emissions. Another South African company, Sasol Ltd., also operates one of the top nitrogen dioxide sites. This study emphasizes the urgent need for effective measures to combat air pollution in South Africa and emphasizes the responsibility of major companies in environmental conservation.
