Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC), the world's leading chipmaker, faced operational disruptions after the biggest earthquake in 25 years hit Taiwan. The company halted some chipmaking machinery and evacuated staff in response to the seismic activity. As a key component supplier for tech giants like Apple Inc. and Nvidia Corp., TSMC moved its staff from specific areas and is assessing the impact of the 7.4 magnitude earthquake. Additionally, smaller local rival United Microelectronics Corp. also reported halting machinery and evacuating certain facilities. The earthquake has highlighted the vulnerability of Taiwan's tech industry to natural disasters and underscores the importance of contingency planning in the semiconductor supply chain.
