Tenstorrent Introduces Wormhole: Disrupting the AI Hardware Market

Tenstorrent, under the leadership of chip architect Jim Keller, has unveiled its latest hardware, Wormhole. This launch follows the introduction of the Grayskull DevKits in March 2024. Wormhole, equipped with Tensix Cores, aims to deliver superior performance and cost efficiency compared to traditional GPUs through its two PCIe boards, namely n150s and n300s.

The n150s board features 72 Tensix cores, while the n300s hosts 128 Tensix cores across two ASICs. Tenstorrent is planning to make a full transition to Wormhole, with the subsequent release of Blackhole scheduled for the following year.

In addition to standalone boards, Tenstorrent offers pre-built AI workstations, including the TT-LoudBox and TT-QuietBox. The TT-LoudBox, powered by two Intel Xeon 4309Y processors and four n300s cards, is priced at $12,000. On the other hand, the TT-QuietBox, tailored for noise-sensitive environments, comes with an AMD EPYC 8124P processor and four n300s cards, offered at $15,000.

These workstations are designed to address the demands of professional users, delivering robust computing solutions with high-speed processing capabilities and sufficient storage. Tenstorrent's strategic direction aims to provide scalable and efficient hardware for AI development, catering specifically to the requirements of developers and businesses operating within the tech industry.
