The US government is exerting pressure on allies such as the Netherlands, Germany, South Korea, and Japan to tighten restrictions on China’s access to semiconductor technology. This controversial effort is aimed at plugging holes in export controls and restraining China’s progress in developing domestic chip capabilities. The Biden administration is urging countries to take measures such as stopping ASML Holding NV from servicing and repairing sensitive chipmaking equipment that Chinese clients purchased before limits on sales were put into place. This push is met with resistance in some countries but signifies the ongoing efforts to curb China's advancement in the semiconductor industry.
