The Washington State Legislature approved a bipartisan proposal to create an Artificial Intelligence Task Force, aiming to understand the benefits and risks of AI technology. The task force, comprising 19 members from diverse backgrounds, will investigate and submit reports on public policy issues and existing protections, high-risk uses, racial equity, civil liberty issues, and more. Attorney General Bob Ferguson, the proponent, expressed the necessity of safeguarding Washingtonians against AI technology's risks while maximizing its benefits. The development mirrors the growing attention to AI at both state and federal levels, with similar task forces being established across the United States. The initiative reflects the rapid rise and influence of AI technology in various aspects of life.
