WHO Study Reveals Alarming Rates of Neurological Conditions Globally
A recent study by the World Health Organization has revealed that nearly half of the global population is living with neurological conditions, making it the largest leading cause of disability and illness worldwide. The study, conducted in collaboration with other organizations, found that about 3.4 billion people are affected by various neurological problems, including Alzheimer’s, stroke, epilepsy, and neurodevelopmental disorders. Despite some decrease in rates over the years, the absolute number of affected individuals has increased. The burden is disproportionately felt in low- to middle-income countries. WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus emphasized the urgent need for targeted interventions to provide quality care, treatment, and rehabilitation for those affected. The study also highlighted the importance of understanding and protecting brain health from early childhood to later life.
